National Links - Help, Support & Advice

Cocaine Anonymous - A fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem, and help others to recover from their addiction.

Narcotics Anonymous - A non-profit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem - Recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean.

Drugscope - Charity providing an online encyclopaedia of drugs and directory of help sources.

FRANK- A to Z list of substances explains appearance and use, effects, chances of getting hooked, health risks and UK law

Alcoholics Anonymous - A fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

Alcohol Concern - Works to reduce alcohol related harm, and to increase the range and quality of services available to people with alcohol related problems.

Drinkaware - Is an independent, UK-wide charity that aims to change the UK's drinking habits for the better. They promote responsible drinking and find innovative ways to challenge the national drinking culture to help reduce alcohol misuse and minimise alcohol-related harm

Know Your Limits - NHS website that has been specifically designed to warn about the dangers of excess drinking and knowing your daily limits.

Families Anonymous - A fellowship of self-help groups for those concerned about drug abuse ie for families and friends of a drug user or related behavioural problems.

Options 4 families - is a national organisation working with and for families affected by the following :- Bullying, smoking, drugs, alcohol, teenage pregnancy, racism, anti-social behaviour, domestic violence and behavioural problems. We also deal with extras such as fostering and adoption, healthy lifestyles, sports development, and obesity.

Samaritans - Provides confidential emotional support 24/7 to those experiencing despair, distress or suicidal feelings.

Crimestoppers - Independent charity, not the police report crime completely anonymously.

National Treatment Agency- Special Health Authority, established by the UK government to increase the availability, capacity and effectiveness of drug treatment in England.

The National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) forms part of the work of the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse. All services that provide structured treatment for drug and/or alcohol users are asked to submit data to NDTMS. Once analysed figures published on their web portal.

Home Office Drugs Site - Information about what the Home Office are doing to deal with the serious problems caused by illegal drug use.

European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) - Reference point on drugs in Europe

United Nations Office Drugs and Crime - Is mandated to assist member states in the struggle against illicit drugs, crime and terrorism.



Local Links - Help, Support & Advice

Open Road - The Essex Drug and Alcohol Action Team commission Open Road to provide 'Open Access' substance misuse service across Essex (excluding Southend & Thurrock) which includes information, advice, outreach, counselling and referral on to the relevant specialist and non specialist services as required.

Essex Young Peoples Drug & Alcohol Service (EYPDAS) - The Essex Drug and Alcohol Action Team commission the Essex Young Peoples Drug and Alcohol Service (EYPDAS) to provide information, support, advice, interventions and treatment across the County for children, young people and families affected by their own or someone else's substance misuse. They also work closely with professionals who are in contact with children and young people affected by substance misuse.

9 Oxford Road Alcohol Project - The Essex Drug and Alcohol Action Team commission 9 Oxford Road to provide services across Essex (excluding Southend & Thurrock) for adult alcohol misuers. This includes information, advice, support, drop in facility, group based work whilst providing some respite residential care and referral on to the relevant specialist and non specialist services as required.

The Essex Youth Scrutiny Committee (EYSC) is a voluntary group of young people aged between 13 and 19 years old (and up to 25 years old for young people with additional needs). At present, all the members from the Essex Youth Scrutiny Committee come from the South of Essex (namely Basildon, Castle Point and Rochford). This is due to it being a pilot scheme. If the committee is successful, this pilot will be expanded to cover the rest of Essex. The Essex Youth Scrutiny Committee engage with and involve a wide spectrum of young people.
